Banda islands
The Banda islands (Maluku, Indonesia) are known as the dutch spice islands where we used to find our nutmeg in particular, which in that time was worth more than gold. Being Dutch there was interesting history to find here in this remote, extremely hard-to-reach location. I found myself there in rain season, having a very tough time to reach it. Due to the weather nothing other than one of the Pelni ferries was available. I ended up flying to Kei islands where I found out there was a boat to Banda. Once I arrived at Banda, there was no way off the island for 14 days, resulting in a penalty for late visa extension. Nevertheless, the troubles were worth it to get here. Banda is a group of small islands with a very laid community, a nice history to learn by doing tours and visiting historical buildings, interesting food to taste, great snorkelling and diving. Although otherwise there's not much to do, you'll likely find yourself wanting to stay longer in this charming group of islands.
